Peter Russell ~ Enjoying Meditation: Having It Be a Delight Rather than a Chore (In-Person)

Sunday, July 19, 2026 @ 3:00pm-5:00pm (Pacific Time)

Northbrae Community Church, 941 The Alameda
Berkeley, CA United States

Peter Russell will share insights and practices from his new book, How to Meditate Without Even Trying — a book that challenges conventional assumptions about meditation and offers a refreshingly simple approach: the less you try, the easier meditation becomes.

For many beginners, meditation can feel like an uphill battle — a never-ending struggle to quiet the thinking mind and focus the attention. It’s easy to walk away discouraged, convinced that meditation demands more effort and discipline than you can muster.

In Peter’s approach, we don’t need to control the mind or try to remain present. Instead he offers practices and insights that allow the mind to settle down naturally. Meditation then becomes not only easier and more effective, but also more enjoyable.

Along the way, Peter will explore egoic-thinking and how to let it go; the nature of the Self; how our inner knowing can help deepen our meditation and savor the ever-present inner stillness of our own Being.

This time will also be an opportunity to discuss with Peter his work on consciousness and the nature of spiritual awakening.

Peter Russell coined the term “global brain” with his 1980’s bestseller of the same name in which he predicted the Internet and the impact it would have on humanity. He is the author of twelve other books, including From Science to God, Letting Go of Nothing, Forgiving Humanity and most recently How to Meditate Without Even Trying.

His mission is to distill the essence of the world’s wisdom traditions, and disseminate it in ways that are appropriate for the current times.
