In this mode\, others become roles\, functions\, or reflections of our own needs\, and even we ourselves can begin to feel flattened\, distant\, or unfulfilled. \nThis is what Martin Buber called the I–It relationship. \nThere is another way of being–a way of meeting life that is alive\, reverent\, at sea—where we are slow to define and objectify\, and instead meet the other as a presence\, from our own presence. In this way of relating\, we do not stand apart from life\, but enter into a living experience of it.
