Atreya Thomas ~ Merging the Outer with the Innermost Self
Sunday, February 5, 2017 @ 2:00pm~5:00pm
2-4 pm, with refreshments until 5 pm
From a young age, Atreya was a spiritual seeker, but at age 27, he gave up his pursuit, declaring that there are no answers in books, and that people cannot change. However, at age 30, he was overtaken by the first in a series of three transformations that occurred over a five-year period. With each transformation, awareness of the unchanging observer became more permanent, eventually culminating in the merging of the observer and the observed. In addition to being a spiritual teacher and author (including his latest, Revealing the Absolute), he works as a preschool teacher and gymnastics’ coach. Additionally, he is the father of four adopted children, and, with his wife, he continues to foster drug-exposed newborns, and works closely with underprivileged communities.
“First we must transcend the mind and body and discover the Inner Most Self. Then we come back to our humanity illuminate and set ablaze every aspect of our outer life. Melding the outer with the inner creates a complete human being.”
“The ego does die, but it is not what many think. The caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, dies to his old form and can never go back to being a caterpillar. Yet, if you look closely, the main body of it still retains its caterpillar form. Recognize that you are an ego and do not pretend to have wings by using non-duality jargon. You intuit the source within; now offer yourself in deep surrender as ego incarnate to the fire of grace. It is this fire which burns away all that is exclusive and leaves in its place a refined personality under the sole sovereignty of God, which makes the will of the individual the will of the One.”
